If you’re sending cold DMs like this, please stop
Most cold DMs feel robotic, desperate, or just plain awkward. Here's the simple shift that changed how people responded to mine and how you can fix yours too.
Heyyy friiennd,
A few months ago, I was doing everything right.
📌 DMing people who fit my ICP
📌 Keeping the message short
📌 Making it “personal”
📌 Asking for a call
Crickets. 🦗
I’d stare at Twitter DMs like they owed me rent.
At one point, I messaged 38 people in a week.
Got 1 polite reply. That’s it.
It felt… embarrassing.
Like shouting into a void where no one cared.
So I stopped.
And instead of writing more DMs,
I studied the ones I actually replied to.
What made them different?
💬 They didn’t pitch right away.
💬 They didn’t flatter weirdly.
💬 They didn’t feel like scripts.
They felt like people.
So I changed mine.
And here’s the format that finally worked for me 👇
Step 1: Context before contact.
Don’t slide in cold. Warm them up. Engage with their content—likes, replies, follows. Just enough to say “I’m here.” 👋
Step 2: Lead with resonance.
Don’t introduce yourself. Introduce understanding. “Saw your thread about launch anxiety. Felt that in my soul. I froze for 3 days before hitting publish last week.”
Step 3: Give without an agenda.
Add a thought. A resource. A shared story. No pitch. No links. Just a moment of value. 💡
Step 4: Let the convo flow.
Once they reply (and they will), that’s when you earn the right to talk about what you do.
This small shift changed everything.
✅ No more ghosting
✅ More replies
✅ Actual human conversations
✅ Some turned into users, without ever asking for a call
If you feel like your cold DMs are invisible, I’ve been there.
Fixing it isn’t about clever hacks. It’s about being human again.
No templates. Just real talk.
And yes, this is exactly why I built xAutoDM.
Not to spam better, but to scale the human part of outreach that actually works.
Hit reply if you want to share your worst cold DM moment.
I’d genuinely love to hear it.
